Leader of Year 12 Wellbeing

Mr Peter Robertson

Here we are at the end of Term 2 and in the blink of an eye, Year 12 has only one term left of their schooling career. The great majority of students were focused and impressive in their preparation for the recent mini Assessment Block and we are hopeful of some great results when papers are returned over the next week or so.

This leaves, of course, just the last task for the School-Based Assessment Program: the Trial HSC Examinations commencing on Monday, 4 August. This is now fewer than 6 weeks away! Time really does fly when you’re having fun. We have a ‘HSC Study Club‘ running during the holidays in the Learning Centre, open between 9am and 3pm, Tuesday-Thursday in both weeks.

Study Club is a great opportunity for our students to work collaboratively on their subjects, away from the potential distractions of home. A range of courses are offering Revision Workshops at this time, with teachers available for consultation. The Trial HSC exams assess the full course and mirror the style and pattern of the HSC Examinations. Students have access to past papers and content material on each section of their syllabus for every subject and they should use the holidays to get organised and develop study notes in preparation for the fast approaching exams. Attempting practice questions and getting feedback is also an effective strategy moving forward.

Successful students email their teachers and ask questions. They send through draft essays and responses. They look for ways to find extra marks and improve their overall skills. They work on their areas of weakness. They do sections (eg. multiple choice, short answer) under timed conditions. The list goes on. The Trial HSC represents the final chance to secure a decent ranking before the external HSC examinations in October. This should be every student’s priority at this point in time.

At our next Year Assembly (and in the next Newsletter), I will be outlining details for Term 3 around what happens after the Trials, requests for College References, Graduation, the Year 12 Formal and the like. Until then, I wish everybody a peaceful holiday break, restful and stress free.
