Careers News

Mrs Yvette Kennedy

June, 2025  -  FACT:  Those who have goals are 10 times more likely to succeed than those without goals

It has been a great few weeks as our students are preparing for upcoming assessment tasks and exams and continuing their research into suitable options post school. The students of our College are fortunate to be exposed to a number of opportunities to explore where their future may be following their HSC and to help them to make informed choices. Some of our Year 12 students recently visited UOW where they explored pathways to careers in Nursing and Business. Students participated in a number of simulated workshops and discovered what university has to offer in these faculty areas.

Our students are also continuing to participate in work experience programs so that they can gain experience in a range of careers. A highlight this term was Sarah Barrett, who attended the Defense Force ‘Women in Aviation Program’. Sarah learnt about the many different roles available with ADF and was able to get exposure to a Pilatus PC-21 aircraft, and learnt about Air Battle Management. This has inspired her to seek pathways into further study post school. See an article on the ‘News’ page of Australian Government Defense.

UAC

Students in Year 12 who are interested in applying to study at university will need to use the UAC portal. UAC is now open for applications, and students can submit up to 5 preferences. There are schemes through UAC that can help students access university.

  • Educational Access Scheme (EAS) - helps students who have experienced significant educational challenges.
  • Equity Scholarships- awarded to students who have financial difficulties.
  • Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS) - an opportunity for students to be assessed on criteria other than, or in addition to, the ATAR.

University

In the previous newsletter, I listed the Open Days of a number of universities and institutions. I highly recommend students in both Year 11 and 12 to attend Open Days as it gives them the opportunity to explore courses on offer before finalising their preferences.
