Independent Report into Administrative and Compliance Workload in Schools

The APF, in collaboration with key stakeholder associations including VPA, VASSP, PASS, and CEP, has made a significant contribution to the Independent Review. The recently released report represents a tangible outcome of the collective work initiated in May 2023 following the Education Summit, Reimagining the Principalship, with a clear focus on addressing the workload challenges faced by the principal class.
Our advocacy and work continues, as we actively engage with Department staff to ensure that the review’s recommendations lead to tangible, meaningful outcomes that strengthen the support, wellbeing, and sustainability of school leadership.
Monthly meetings are currently held between the peak bodies and relevant Departmental staff to monitor and support the implementation of the Review’s recommendations. Commencing from the first day of the 2026 school year, the Government has provided undertakings that the following recommendations will be actioned and operationalised:
- Recommendation 2: Track administration and compliance workload and set improvement targets
- Recommendation 11: Streamlining individual student learning, health, and wellbeing plans for 2026
- Recommendation 12: Remove ‘recommended’ Individual Education Plan guidance
- Recommendation 13: Simplify semesterly reporting
- Recommendation 16: Simplify and reduce travel applications
- Recommendation 18: Provide administrative support for teacher teams
