Celebrations of Learning and Community

VET Hospitality

Our talented Unit 1 & 2 VET Hospitality and Cookery students at Hazel Glen College served up a delicious spread for staff to enjoy! The students applied a range of professional cooking techniques and hospitality service practices in a real-world scenario.

This hands-on experience provided valuable insight into the hospitality industry and culinary world, enhancing their learning while contributing to achieving their VET competencies. Huge thanks to our budding hospitality professionals for making this event a tasty success! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

Year 12 Chemistry

Our Year 12 Chemistry class had a good time performing a titration experiment. The experiment involved determining how much Vitamin C was in a common Vitamin C tablet.

Science Week

During our Primary Years year level assemblies, our students were visited by a group of enthusiastic Year 9 students who came to share the excitement of Science Week. As part of their presentation, the Year 9s introduced an engaging and hands-on experiment known as “Elephant Toothpaste.” With a mixture of curiosity and awe, our students watched as colourful foam rapidly expanded, creating a spectacular chemical reaction. The visit not only sparked interest in science but also helped build connections between the Primary and Secondary students, showing how learning can be fun, inspiring, and full of surprises.

Year 9 City Experience - The Big Issue

Over the past two weeks, students from Year 9 have continued their City Experience program. The focus during this time has been on the impact of homelessness on the Australian economy and the role that we all play to support those who may be less advantaged than us. Students had the opportunity to visit The Big Issue, a leader in Australia’s social enterprise sector, providing employment opportunities to people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage.

In this workshop, students explored the role social enterprises such as The Big Issue play in alleviating disadvantage and offering sustainable solutions to pressing social issues. Students had a fantastic day interacting with staff and the program, completing a variety of group activities. Staff and students both continue to develop critical connections with one another through the City Experience program, and we are starting to see their confidence develop in our students when it comes to navigating the city and supporting one another.

In the coming weeks, the Year 9 team will be involved in a variety of community projects which aim to increase our students and the College's connectedness to the local community.
