About The Crucible
The Crucible is based on a book by the same name by Arthur Miller, with the premise around the witch trials of Salem in the 1600s. It mainly revolves around the involvement of John Proctor and the lies of Abigail Williams.
The DSC school play will be presenting August 7-9th.

John Proctor
El P. from Year 12
Line: “I will bring your guts into your mouth, but that goodness will not die for me!”
A flawed but proud man, tormented by his past affair with Abigail Williams, John Proctor holds his friend Giles Corey and wife Elizabeth Proctor close to heart; however, he values his name and his integrity above all else. His development of a tragic hero along his moral journey.
Favourite Scene: the women of Salem erupting into chaos in the Court during Act 3
Rebecca
Helen C. from Year 10
Line: “Goody Ann! You sent a child to conjure up the dead?”
Rebecca is a nurse who has a very high status character as she holds the respect of many in the play and is accused of witchcraft.
As wise as she is, she still has grace and affection for the children she tends to.
Favourite Scene: Abigail and the girls pretend to be controlled by Mary Warren in the Court

“Managing props mainly involved organising with the actors what they would like on scene and what is appropriate, then the collection of props, which is surprisingly the easier part.”

Kaylie Leung – Mercy Lewis
- “I was really surprised, I thought I did badly in the auditions, but some of my friends had told me otherwise”
- “No, this is my first one”
- “It's really interesting and I enjoy being around people with the same kind of mindset, but a problem it does have is that it cuts into my study time and time in class”
- “I would prefer to steal the role of Abigail, as she is the lead, but I also wouldn’t want it because it’s a lot of work and I’m still in year nine, AND it's my first time being in a play”
Yasmine Fokas – Giles Corey
2. “I was grateful, and excited for the experience of exploring and building a character”
3. “Yes I did Midsummer Night’s Dream and had a minor role in Clue On Stage”
4. “fun to work with my peers, and get some insights on different methods and techniques”
5. “No, but last year and this year I have played male characters, so I would love to experience playing a female character”
Lucy Fokas – Officer Hopkins
2. “I was pretty happy when I saw my name was next to a character that has a slightly bigger role compared to what I had in previous years”
3. “Yes, last year I did one, the Midsummer Night’s Dream”
4. “It's been a good experience, because I feel like I’ve learnt more patience while acting, and Ms Egglestone was very dedicated to this performanc,e therefore it felt like a more professional performance”
5. “Yes, because I would want a bigger role and because I would want a female role next time”

2. “I was pleased, I didn’t know much about the play, but I was glad to be a part of it”
3. “Yes, I was part of A Midsummer Night’s Dream last year”
4. “I think it's been very good, definitely very complex characters and interesting play to create”
5. “I don’t know, I actually really like my role.”
