Flourishing Together

Last week our leadership team had the opportunity to attend the Christian Schools Australia Leaders’ Summit in Melbourne. As part of the trip, we visited Flinders Christian College to see their Joshua Centre - a program very similar to our own Gideon Program. We also toured the brand-new Senior Learning Centre at Crest College, which gave us some exciting ideas for the future of King’s.

The summit featured two inspiring keynote speakers: Dr Andy Crouch and Dr Matthew Lee. Dr Crouch is a Christian author and speaker who helps schools and churches think about how faith, culture, and technology shape the way we live. Dr Lee is a university professor and researcher who focuses on human flourishing and wellbeing - what it means to live a truly good and meaningful life.

A special highlight of the summit was the release of the Student Flourishing in Australian Christian Schools survey. This survey involved 57 Christian schools across the country, including King’s College, and asked two key questions:

  • Do Christian schools make a positive impact on young people?

  • If so, how does that happen?

The results for King’s College are encouraging, and we will be looking closely at these results with our staff.

The summit gave us fresh encouragement about what God is doing here at King’s:

Seeing the Joshua Centre confirmed that starting our Gideon Program was a great decision. We are now exploring whether we can expand places in the program, so that more students can benefit.

Visiting the new Senior Learning Centre gave us a vision of what is possible in learning space design for Senior students, confirming a long-term dream of ours to one day have a dedicated space for Senior students here at King’s College.

Andy Crouch shared the moving story of his niece, Angela, who lived with a severe form of Down Syndrome and passed away at just 12 years old. Through her story, he asked big questions about what it means for all people to flourish - including those whom the world often overlooks.

His message deeply touched us and reminded us that God’s vision for flourishing is for everyone. It has challenged us to keep reflecting on how King’s College can be a place where every child, no matter their background or challenges, has the opportunity to thrive.

We want to thank all our families for your ongoing prayers, support, and encouragement as we continue to grow the Gideon Program and dream bigger for the future of King’s. Together, we are building a community where every student can flourish in the way God has uniquely created them.

“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God.” - Psalm 92:12–13

Learn to Play Bag Pipes & Snare Drum

We are welcoming enquiries from students aged 8 and up who are interested in learning Bag Pipes or the Snare Drum. This is in conjunction with the Warrnambool Pipes and Drums Band.

There are no tuition fees incurred as the Warrnambool Pipe Major and Drum Major come to school each week to tutor students for a 20 minute lesson during school hours. To begin learning to play pipes or drums there is a purchase fee of $85, which covers a chanter (pipes) or $100 for drumsticks and a drum pad. This cost also includes the tuition book.

Once competent (usually after 18 months), many Pipes and Drums students compete in competitions at state, national and international levels and we can provide further information once this stage is reached.

Please email your child's interest to reception@kings.vic.edu.au
