Message from the Acting Assistant Principal

Mrs. Doreen Smider – Acting Assistant Principal P-6

Dear Kyabram P-12 College Students and Families,

3 – 6 Waranga Athletics

On Friday 15 August our college hosted the annual Waranga Athletics Carnival. The day saw over 680 Year 3 – 6 students from eight schools within our region participate across a range of events. The day was a great success and one in which students demonstrated their talent and sportspersonship.  A special thank you goes out to Makayla Morrison, Sarah Halliwell, Kaitlin Souter and Carmen Nicholson, whose planning and organisation ensured the day was a great success. Thank you to staff and volunteers who helped set up and pack up after the event, your dedication to our college ensured a memorable day of athletics.

Bullying No Way!  Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up.

Our college recently participated in Bullying No Way: National Week of Action. During the week students engaged in meaningful discussions and activities aimed at promoting empathy, understanding and respect for diversity. Kids Helpline livestreamed an anti-bullying lesson for students across Prep to Year 6 which included tips, tools and strategies to respond to bullying. Throughout the week students participated in lunchtime activities that included music and dance, rock painting with positive messages, and chalk drawing. Thank you to Rachael Munzel our P-6 Mental Health Coordinator, for shining the light on such an important topic and for providing our students with the opportunity to be bold, be kind, and to speak up.

Booktacular!

Booktacular is our college’s week-long celebration of Book Week. This year’s event saw our P-12 community come together on the front lawns to celebrate the official opening of Booktacular! The morning included our Prep to Year 12 costume parade and picnic. The carnival atmosphere was amplified by the inclusion of a coffee van, sweet treats and roving entertainment. The theme “Book an Adventure” was supported by a carefully curated program which included author and artist visits, performers, daily expos, lunchtime activities, and the Scholastic Book Fair. The Booktacular event was designed to inspire a love of reading, writing and creating. A big thank you to our wonderful Library team Jen, Meg and Karen for orchestrating the week-long celebration of book week for our students.

Legacy Lunch

Mr Coombs and two of our College Captains recently attended a luncheon at the Kyabram Club which was held for the Kyabram Legatee Ladies. This is a yearly event held in the lead up to Legacy Week.

On Thursday 4 September, we will be holding our Lone Pine Ceremony beginning at 12:30pm and we welcome our community to attend this event.

7-10 Girls Health Day

Year 7 to 10 students recently participated in a Girl’s Health Day. Students rotated through a variety of sessions presented by Briody from Sexual Health Victoria, our school nurses, Lisa and Andrea, and Shani from Kyabram District Health Services. The students learnt about pain management through movement and other topics including body kindness, sleep and stress. Thank you to the wonderful presenters and Ms Souter for providing our students with a valuable learning experience.

Ninja Warrior Course Grand Opening

Tuesday 20 August saw the official opening of our Ninja Warrior Course. It was fantastic to see the community come together for such a special occasion. The college could not have done it without the support and generosity of ACHPER Victoria, Community Bank Kyabram, Kyabram Club, and our amazing Kyabram P-12 Community Group. The Ninja Warrior Course provides students from years 3 and above with a fun way to develop strength and agility. A big thanks to Mr Coombs for helping demonstrate how to tackle the course!

Practice Exams

As we near the end of term 3 our Year 12 students will be provided with the opportunity to sit practice exams. Throughout the year students focus on timing and building stamina, practice exams enable students to use these skills under exam conditions. It will be a terrific opportunity for students to focus on their strengths and areas for improvement.
