TEACHING AND LEARNING

Integrated Studies

Our Year 5/6 students have been diving deep into key events that shaped Australia’s past. From early Indigenous history to Federation and beyond, students have explored significant moments through research and discussion.

As part of their learning, they've created detailed timelines that highlight major historical events and their impact on our nation's development.

Check out this fantastic example from 5/6B!

Literacy

A huge thank you to our amazing Lucas P.S community who visited the Book Fair this week to support our school. It was wonderful to see so many students and their families choosing some exciting new books to take home. Some students even saved up their pocket money to buy some new books!

In just two weeks we will be celebrating the CBCA Book Week with a whole school dress up parade and a day of learning inspired by some of the 2025 shortlisted books. It is time for everyone to start thinking about their favourite book characters and how they might be able to create a costume for the celebration. It would be great to see some creative ideas that include some things that you already have at home. We can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!

Our students have been working hard in Writing this term! From Prep to Year 6, everyone has been following the writing process by planning, drafting, editing, revising, and publishing their work with care and creativity.

We’re proud to showcase some wonderful examples from both ends of the school, take a look at these fantastic pieces from Prep and Year 6!

Numeracy:

Over the past two weeks, our Year 5/6 students have been sharpening their multiplication and division skills. They’ve been exploring a variety of written and mental strategies to solve problems. A key focus has been connecting classroom learning to real-world situations, helping students see how maths is useful and relevant every day!

High Abilities:

Our Young Authors were excited to attend their second workshop last week. The workshop was held at the Scotsburn Campus of Buninyong Primary School, which meant recess and lunch times were a great opportunity to mingle with the Young Authors from other schools. Not only is this program an excellent way to improve their writing skills, but it gives students a chance to meet and get to know other students from the area.

This Workshop involved sessions with authors, illustrators and songwriters including Mark Muldoon, Elyse Hunt, Nicholas Wetemans and Michael Henry. Students learnt to describe emotion through actions, created characters using the idea of good vs evil, they created character conflict in their screenwriting and wrote their own songs! Students were even able to perform their songs in front of their group–what an experience!
