Year 3, Term 2: April Newsletter - 2025

Literacy

In Writing this term, we will be identifying the structure and features of an information report. Students will plan, compose, edit and publish an information report based on our knowledge unit of Australia and its neighbours.

In Knowledge this term we will be exploring a new unit about Australia and its neighbouring countries. Students will explore features of some of our neighbouring countries and similarities and differences between them, as well as exploring our own country and identifying specific characteristics of Australia.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we will be continuing to develop students’ Place Value knowledge to four digits with concrete materials, recognising the place value of digits in a number to 10,000 and renaming four digit numbers. Students will be developing their understanding of time, with a focus on telling time to the minute and using both analogue and digital clocks. We will also explore data through creating, comparing, and interpreting different types of graphs. Students will also have the opportunity to investigate length, mass, and capacity through hands-on activities.

SEL

In SEL, we will be continuing to use The Resilience Project to build our social and emotional learning. We will be further exploring gratitude which is focusing on what you have, and showing our appreciation for all the people and things we are grateful for.

AUSLAN

In AUSLAN, students will be exploring topics about size and shape. They will be shown how size is indicated in AUSLAN by using fingers, hands and facial expressions. For example, the way that you would sign that you are drinking from a small cup is different to the way you show that you are drinking from a large mug.

Students will also be taught how to sign 2D and 3D shapes in AUSLAN, as well as how to use a full hand to indicate 3D shapes.
