Library News

Anzac Day is a time to commemorate all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in war. The library has many books in both the fiction and non fiction sections covering wars throughout the ages. By engaging in stories, poems and factual information that explore war, our students can develop critical thinking skills about the human cost of conflict. “Women in World War 1” by Nick Hunter describes the way women’s lives changed and how they played a vital part in the war effort. Many women took on jobs that men had previously done such as driving ambulances. Nurses treated wounded soldiers at first aid stations behind the front line and then moved them to field hospitals. Although many women contributed to the war effort, they also were amongst it’s strongest opponents. Alice Wheeldon was a British women who sheltered people opposed to the war and was imprisoned for this.
