John XXIII Rowing Club

Dear Rowing Families

JTC is hosting the first IGSSA regatta of the season on Saturday, 10 May at Champion Lakes. This is a major fundraising opportunity for our Rowing Club and all rowing families are encouraged to donate an item for the raffle, bake a cake and contribute by volunteering some time to assist at the regatta.

The girls’ squad are gearing up to compete in this regatta and we are excited to see crews giving it their all on race day. Rowing camp was a success, and rowers made some great improvements over the two days, and some got to explore different parts of the river, venturing to Elizabeth Quay for their long row, with rowing camp culminating in a goal-setting session for year group and Club and an Amazing Race in teams around the school. We look forward to seeing this team cohesion, perseverance and dedication continue to develop in Term 2.

JTC IGSSA Regatta - HOSTING

We are hosting the first regatta of the IGSSA School Girls season on Saturday, 10 May. This is our major fundraising event for the year. Please refer to the below and to your respective year WhatsApp group for more information.

Cake Stall

Each family will receive a cake box, which we would love you to fill with something delicious to sell. The food technology classes will be open to parents/grandparents on Wednesday 7 May from 1-3pm and Thursday 8 May from 3-5pm to help bake cakes. Students can join the after school session to create something tasty as well.

Ingredients are to be listed on the labels provided. We encourage you to bring the cake directly to Champion Lakes on Saturday morning, when you drop your child at the bus on Saturday morning or at school on Friday between 8:00am and 8:45am or 3:00pm and 3:30pm to the Thomas More Exhibition Centre.

More information is provided in the letter in the WhatsApp group.

Raffle

We kindly ask for donated items for inclusion in the raffle. We are aiming to create beautifully presented prizes such as a pamper hamper, sports pack, and gourmet food basket. Please send items with your children, and they can be dropped off at the PE Office.

Suggested items include: biscuits, sauces, gourmet food items, soaps, bath products, sporting goods, wine (please bring this directly to the PE Office or hand it to a coach).

Please see the WhatsApp group for further inspiration.

Volunteers are also required to help at the Regatta, including assisting with the cake stall, barbeque duty, and dinghy driving. Even if you can only help for an hour or two, we would appreciate the assistance. Please find the signup link here.

2025 Year 8 Learn to Row

Our Year 8 Learn to Row sessions commence next week with rowers taking to the water on either Tuesday or Wednesday morning. An email was sent to registered students with their allocated day.

Rowing sessions:

  • Tuesday morning 5:30am (bus departs school at 5:05am)
  •  Wednesday morning 5:30am (bus departs school at 5:05am)

All rowers catch the bus back to school which returns at approximately 8:10am prior to school commencing. If it is more convenient, rowers can be dropped at the boatshed and then catch the bus back to school. Morning sessions are mixed with both boys and girls in the same boats.

For the land session, these are held from 3:30pm to 4:30pm at the school, combined with the rowers from Years 9 - 12, with a mixture of rowing ergometer and circuit exercises. If a student cannot attend their respective afternoon, students can go to either session to fit their schedule.

  • Girls' land session at school is on Monday afternoons from 3:30pm to 4:30pm, commencing on Monday, 5 May.
  • Boys' land session at school is on Thursday afternoons from 3:30pm to 4:30pm, commencing on Thursday, 8 May.

Year 8's will be given the opportunity to race in two regattas at Champion Lakes, on Sunday, 15 June, and culminate on Saturday, 28 June. Year 8's are also encouraged to participate in the House Regatta on the 23 August in Term 3. Further details of these regattas will be sent in the coming weeks.

The cost of this program is $375. Please complete this form to register: Year 8 Learn to row registration form.

Please contact me if you have any queries.

Uniforms

The new Zootsuit is now in stock at the Uniform Shop. There is also a training top that can be worn under the Zootsuit. The only compulsory item is the Zootsuit for racing at regattas. There is stock of the old zootsuit which can be worn for training.

Stack Team App

Please download the Stack Team App if you have not already done so. This app is one of our main avenues for communication with rowers and their parents. This is the central place for training schedules, training updates, and rowers can contact their coach in case of illness or injury and missed trainings. It is important that all rowers and parents have access.

To get this app please go to the App Store or Google Play and download Stack Team App onto your mobile device, then follow these simple steps:

  1. Sign-up to Stack Team App. You’ll be sent an email to confirm your registration.
  2. Log-in and search for JTCRC, then request to become a member.
