Check out what the Year 6 students have been up to in the last two weeks!
The Year 6 students arrived to new classroom furniture, out with the old and in with the new! New chairs, tables and storage. The purpose of this is to encourage different styles of learners, making it more engaging and something different for them! (Much better than the old blue tables and chairs in a heap of random sizes!)
This is a friendly reminder that while students are permitted to bring mobile phones to school, they must be switched off and securely stored in the tubs provided in the learning centre upon arrival each morning. Phones are not to be used in the morning when they arrive at school.
There is also a growing number of students using smart watches to contact people. If you need to contact your child during school hours, please do so via the school office.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
All secondary school transition forms must be returned by next Friday, the 9th of May. Please ensure this reaches your child's teacher, and it will be passed on straight to Mrs Prentice. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's classroom teacher if you have any concerns.
The students have started their new unit on 'How Australia became a Nation?'. We have looked at Federation over the past week, and we also looked into the Preferential Voting System that we use today. Students had a go at voting for their own candidates from each class!
This week, the students wrote some amazing creative writing pieces, their focus to make their writing creative but also introduce facts. Rather than sitting at their desks, students wrote outside in the fresh air! See below some wonderful pieces on what happens at 'Bell Time'!
Ding, ding, ding. The bell sounded three times, and within those three seconds, I could see children sprinting out like a herd of elephants under the earthy blue sky with anticipation. The iridescent streaks of sunlight slapped their faces, and the gold rays reflected on their skin. They screamed with delight as they met up with each other from other classes. A loud clatter of noise immediately arose like a wave crashing onto the shore. A rich, moist smell from the air outside filled our lungs. - Lydia 6GS
Ding! The bell rings as everyone breathes a sigh of relief. Classes are over! Students charge into the play areas, jostling and ramming each other as they desperately try to get a court. Other students lazily saunter to the eating areas to try and talk peacefully without having a ball zooming toward their head. There is plenty of conflict and chaos in the school. Teachers sprint for refuge in their classrooms. But a few unlucky teachers have to put on an orange vest and look after the students in the yard. They groan. - Pranav 6GS
