Year 5

Welcome back to Term 2!

We are well and truly back into the swing of things, and the students have gotten stuck into their work like they never left!

In the Classroom:

Writing:

Students are learning all about the 6+1 Traits of Writing at the moment, breaking down each trait into how to effectively apply it to their own work. This week we looked at VOICE and how this can be used to convey tone and meaning.

Maths:

Students have been looking at improper, proper and mixed fractions this week - creating their own fractions walls and comparing equivalent fractions. Next weeks students will begin to add and subtract fractions. We are also delving in location and the students loved playing battle ships to help their understanding of co-ordinates!

Inquiry:

You have probably heard all about the Earn and Learn program that was introduced in various ways across the classrooms this week, and the students have been incredibly engaged in ensuring they are earning and not losing their money! In the next few weeks we will start preparing for the big Year 5 Market Day Extravaganza, so keep your eye out for more information on this.

Literacy:

Literacy Circles are in full swing now, where students are reading a text in a group and having some amazing discussions about inferences, literary devices, predictions, characters and understanding. Students have also been doing work on various reading strategies, and next week will complete activities on Homophones.
