Show and Tell topics for Term 2

As part of this term’s Inquiry unit, “Let’s Celebrate”, Year One students have been invited to complete a special at home task titled All About Me. This project encourages students to create a poster that celebrates who they are and their cultural background. The poster can include drawings, photos, and written descriptions that reflect each student’s unique identity and heritage. Completed posters will be shared during Show and Tell sessions in Weeks 3 and 4. We look forward to seeing and celebrating the wonderful diversity in our classroom community!

Art smocks

A reminder that all students require art smocks for art lessons so they do not get their uniforms covered in paint or glue. As these are kept in school, please ensure they are clearly named.

Monday:1NF

Wednesday: 1CQ, 1MF

Thursday: 1NL

Mother's Day Stall - week 3

Next week, the members of the VPS Community Network have once again organised a lovely Mother's Day Stall where the children have the opportunity to select some gifts for their mums, grandmas or special friends. The dates the stall will be open for each grade to attend are Tuesday 6th May and Wednesday 7th May.

The gifts range from 50 cents to $11. We kindly ask that the maximum amount they bring to school to purchase is $20, to allow enough gifts for other children to buy. It will also be handy if they bring a carry bag on the day to store their special purchases, and keep their money in a labelled zip lock bag.

These are the days the grade 1 classes are visiting the stall:

Tuesday 6th May - 1CQ and 1NF

Wednesday 7th May - 1MF and 1NL

Mother's Day Picnic - week 3

We love celebrating all of the mums, grandmothers and special friends we have here at Vermont Primary School. On Friday 9th May we will be holding a Mother’s Day Picnic from 12:30pm to 1:10pm.  Mums, grandmothers and special friends are invited to come into the school grounds to share food and have a play with their children. The meeting point for students in Grade 1 will be the F-2 playground.

Grade 1 and 2 Swimming Program - week 5

Grade 1 and 2 students will have swimming lessons in Week 5 (Monday 19th – Friday 23rd May). Swimming will run every day that week. Permission forms will be open on Compass next week. No payment is required.

On the swimming days, please send your child to school wearing their bathers under their uniform to save time changing when we get to the pool. They will also need a small bag to take to the swimming pool with:

  • A towel
  • Goggles
  • Underwear for after swimming
  • A swim cap (optional)

Please make sure everything is clearly named! Lost items can only be returned if they are labelled.

Independence

Swimming helps students with water safety, swimming skills, and independence. Students will have the best experience if they can:

  • Dry and dress themselves after swimming
  • Pack their own swimming bag and know their items (e.g. towel and goggle colour)
  • Keep track of all their belongings

Parent Helpers Needed!

Each class needs parent helpers to accompany them to the pool. If you would like to assist and hold a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC), please complete the online form that will be sent to you through Compass next week.

Parent helpers are required to arrive at Vermont Primary School 5–10 minutes before departure, sign in/out at the office, and wear a lanyard with their WWCC (available at the office).

If you're not rostered to assist or do not have a WWCC, you can still come separately to watch, but you cannot help at the pool or in the change rooms.

We would like to request that anyone who attends the pool to watch swimming lessons please be considerate of student privacy. If you intend to take photos, videos, or digital images, they should only be of your child. Please do not upload pictures of any other child to social media or reproduce or publish for any purpose without the permission of those children's legal guardians.
