Save the Date: Year 1/ 2 excursion on Friday 20th June 2025.
Keep an eye on your inbox next week for an email containing Excursion information and permission.
Year 1:
We have continued to keep the Year 1 students engaged in their learning and have been fortunate to have Hayley Gielser, our Pre-Service Teacher, building strong relationships and teaching across all subject areas. Hayley will continue to take on a greater teaching load with the students for the remainder of her placement.
Over the next few weeks, our focus in Mathematics will be on using informal tools to compare and order objects based on length, identifying whether they are shorter than, longer than, or the same as others.
In Literacy, the children have been reviewing the vowel sounds "ew" and "ue" as in "oo." In Week 4 we have also been exploring writing sentences using the conjunctions "because" and "but."
Please continue to encourage your child to read each night and write in their Home Reading Journal.
YEAR 2:
MATHS: Measurement time in Maths this week for Year 2. The students had so much fun exploring the length of different objects in the classroom. Year 2 Measurement in based on measuring using informal units of measurement, so the students were measuring, comparing and predicting the length of their drink bottles, tables and lots more using paper clips, Icey pole sticks or blocks. Next week we move onto addition and subtraction; looking at doubles, near doubles, fact families and calculating numbers together.
INQUIRY: We have continued our Inquiry focus on Geography; looking at the natural geographical features in the story of Tiddalick and then we explored a wonder of world - the Great Pyramids of Giza. Many of the students learnt interested facts about the pyramids.
HOME READING: A reminder of how important it is to practice reading at home. We understand the business that families face during the week, however 10-15 minutes a day is so beneficial to your child’s literacy development. Please see attached our Check-IN Roster and ensure your child brings their reader folder to school on that day and is arriving as close to 8:30am as possible.
