Foundation Learning Community

Take Home readers:

We are really proud of the way the students are reading at home practicing their sounds and tricky words. On their check in day, they are rereading their familiar book with the teacher, before being introduced to their new text. Keep encouraging your child to decode the sounds and become familiar with the tricky words to practice their fluency.

This week, we met two new friends, Cody Camel and Danny Dingo! The students were introduced to the sounds /c/ and /d/. They have learnt the actions to articulate these sounds. Ask your child if they can tell you some /c/ and /d/ words!

Maths

In Maths we have been working hard on our topic “Part Whole’, which looks at how a number can be broken up into parts. (5 can be partitioned into 4 and 1, 3 and 2, 5 and 0). This will become a foundation for a lot of number work in the future. Our next topic will be looking at Shapes.

Show and Tell

Students can bring in something to share with the class on their designated ‘Check In’ day. This day can be found on your child’s reading folder.

Inquiry-

As part of our Geography unit, we are discussing special places and places we visit. This week we sent home a planning sheet for your child to discuss a holiday they have been on with their family. On the sheet we ask that parents write their child’s responses and students draw to fill in the sheet and return it to their classroom teacher next week. Your children will use this information on their planning sheet to do an oral presentation for their class.
