Learn what opportunities our students have been taking on
To kick start Career Education Week , Year 9 students participated in the Career Education Workshop program. The aim was for students to gain a greater understanding of pathway options and what to consider when making career choices. We commend our students for their active and engaged participation throughout the day.
Students attended speed session with focuses on employer expectations, resume writing, Vocational Education and Training, and entry level jobs. They also had the opportunity to attend two 'Careers in the Spotlight' sessions, choosing from 'SBAT/Apprenticeships', 'Careers in Education', and 'The Journey – Pathways in Action'.
Thank you to the following presenters who made the workshops possible:
Leah Graham (McDonald's Horsham),
David Crooks and Vanessa O'Loughlin (Wimmera Southern Mallee LLEN),
Brendan Schier (Skillinvest),
Olivia Morris (Horsham Rural City Council)
and Louise Hobbs and Malory Ryan (St Brigid's College).
A huge thank you to our Careers and Pathways Coordinator, Mrs Lesley Lannen, for coordinating an amazing program of opportunities for our students during Career Education Week.
Last week, Year 11 students participated in the 'Lead and Elevate' workshop, presented by the Wimmera Southern Mallee LLEN and Horsham Rural City Council. The day included a series of engaging guest speakers, each delivering powerful messages about leadership, self-growth and resilience.
Former St Brigid’s College student, Levi Mellington, shared his personal journey and how taking chances led him to his passion for music. One of Levi’s key messages encouraged students to be brave and give things a go.
Luke S Kennedy, a guest speaker known for his work on mental wellbeing and self-confidence, shared his own challenges and the mindset shifts that helped him grow. He spoke about the power of positive self-talk, staying true to your own path, seeking support when needed, and recognising the impact of kindness and personal accountability.
Psychologist, Sarah Rowe, delivered a session on 'Psychology of Success'. She highlighted the importance of understanding how we learn, embracing our multiple intelligences, and cultivating qualities such as mindfulness, self-kindness, common humanity, and self-compassion.
In the second half of the day, students participated in hands-on workshops focusing on leadership, personal branding, strategies to thrive, and self-care.
We are grateful to the WSM LLEN and HRCC for making this valuable learning opportunity possible. Now, the challenge for our students is to reflect on what they’ve learned and identify how they can put these insights into action.
Over the last three Monday afternoons we have welcomed many energetic Grade 4, 5 and 6 students for the Bright Sparks program! Through the exciting workshops, Journey to Japan, Workshop Wizards, MasterChef Madness and Science Extravaganza, students have been exploring a variety of learning areas and sparking their curiosity.
A big thank you to some of our Year 7 students who have been assisting the primary students in the workshops.
