Principal's Report

Dear families,
It has been a busy time since our last newsletter. On 5 May we had our College Open Day and we were very pleased with the number of new families that undertook tours and attended our information evening. I am always proud to show off our wonderful school and the new refurbishment will only make the College even more comfortable for our students. Our students, and word of mouth from families, are the best advertisement for what we can offer as a community and I thank you for continuing to support the virtues of St Brigid’s College. At the Information evening, I demonstrated to new families the level of academic growth our students achieve from when they enter in Year 7 to their performance in Year 9 NAPLAN which shows our students performing above the State average in Numeracy and Spelling. I encourage families to go to the ‘My School’ website to make comparisons with other local schools.
As Term 2 progresses, we encourage all students to remain focused and committed to their learning goals. Now is a crucial time to stay organised, seek support when needed, and take pride in the learning journey. Staff are here to guide and support every student as they strive for excellence and personal growth. I remind all families that we offer a free and regular “Study Slam’ after school where teachers volunteer their time to tutor students and assist them with homework.
In recent global news, the Catholic Church has entered a new chapter with the election of Pope Leo XIV. This historic event offers our community a moment to reflect on the role of the papacy in shaping faith, unity, and service across the world. Students and staff have taken time in Religious Education and prayer to consider how the Holy Father’s vision may inspire our mission as a Catholic school.
Next week, I will join the Year 11 students on their Street Retreat in Melbourne. This is only the second year that we have done this, and based on last year, this will be a rich and rewarding aspirational orientation for our students as we assist agencies that cater for the homeless and visit a number of tertiary institutions.
This week the Year 9 students have been on Work Experience and the reports back from local employers made me proud of our students and their good manners and work ethic. Next week, I am sure the Year 10 students will perform equally competently during their work experience week.
I would like to remind families of our Parent Reference Group, which has moved to an online platform this year as a closed Facebook group. If you are willing to share insights and feedback on matters that shape our College, please send an expression of interest to prg@stbc.vic.edu.au and we will be in touch regarding joining. In the coming weeks we will be seeking feedback on uniform policy and homework policy
Stay safe,
Gerard
