Environment & Sustainability

Year 1 classroom

The Year 4 students and the Environment and Sustainability Leaders visited the Royal Botanic Gardens on Thursday to attend the Victorian School Garden Awards presentation ceremony. We participated in a Welcome ceremony and a walk in the Children’s Garden and the wider gardens. The students enjoyed partaking in many of the available activities including making clay creatures, and potting up a plant.

We are very excited to announce that Resurrection School was awarded Best Edible Garden for the Victorian School Garden Awards. A big congratulations to the volunteers, student leaders, students and staff that support the beautiful Resurrection edible garden for this nomination. It really is a team effort and nice to have the hard work acknowledged. An especially big thankyou to Mrs Frau for running the amazing Farm 2 Table program and to Yvonne and Mark who assist in looking after the kitchen garden and with the Garden Club. We are very lucky to have amazing support for the garden and programs and very proud of the award.

In Garden Club this term we have been weeding and nurturing our seedlings. We have been harvesting Loquats and Broad Beans, watering when needed and learning about the needs of the plants. We have a beautiful new insect motel donated by the local Men's Shed and we have been learning about the importance of minibeasts in the garden such as bees and worms.

We would love to hear from anyone that would like to be involved with the garden or with the Garden Club on Thursdays lunchtime in 2024. The program involves fun hands-on gardening, weeding, watering, planting and composting and no experience necessary. Email your interest to Trish Magree at pmagree@reskeysborough.catholic.edu.au

Thank you to families for supporting our Rubbish-Free initiative this year. We would like to encourage all families to continue to pack rubbish-free lunches in 2024. Congratulations to 5ST who hold the Rubbish-Free Sparkly Lunchbox award this term. Let's continue the good work in 2024.
