Last Thursday night our year 12 Class of 2023 graduated.   It was a celebration of the end of 13 years of schooling. Each student was presented with a gift and certificate. Included with the gift was a USB with all types of important information for life after secondary school.

There was two photo presentations, the first one being a Prep photo, year 7 photo and year 12 photo for each student.  The second presentation was 'Then and Now'.  Always a highlight!

This week our year 12 (2024) leadership organised a BBQ /face painting for Movember Men's Mental month.  Students enjoyed a sausage and has a moustache painted on their face to raise awareness for men's mental health.

Well done to our student leadership for organising the event, a great way to raise awareness for an important campaign.

Students at Work

VCE Legal Studies Excursion

On Wednesday 15th November, the year 11 (2024) Legal Studies class visited the Melbourne Magistrates Court and Supreme Court of Victoria. We witnessed a variety of civil and criminal cases and met with a Supreme Court Judge. We also met with a Magistrate and a Workcover lawyer on the day. Overall, it was a great learning experience for the students!

Year 10 Travel and Tourism Excursion

The Year 10 Travel and Tourism elective visited Lakes Entrance to investigate the economic and geographic impact of tourism on the area. This followed the development of fieldwork skills including mapping the area and learning how to do field sketches and annotated photographs. Students visited the Esplanade Resort, and learnt about facilities of the resort, jobs performed at a hotel and how the hotel and industry have fared over recent challenging years.

After creating a field sketch of the esplanade, students had a chance to play mini golf. Lots of hole-in-ones, some bragging rights for the winners, and overall lots of fun.

2024 Year 12 Chemistry

The fuel focus in VCE Chemistry has shifted from Bio-diesel to Bio-ethanol in the revised VCE Chemistry course. During headstart, our new year 12 Chemistry students have made some bio-ethanol through the fermentation of glucose with yeast. Glucose can be sourced from many places like sugar cane, other crops like wheat and forest waste.

Australia has three commercial bio-ethanol manufacturing plants. Bio-ethanol is of course added to petrol and we know it as E10, that’s because the mixture contains 10% ethanol. The presence of ethanol in our fuel reduces emissions of particles and gases like carbon dioxide, a well known greenhouse gas.

MYLNS - Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy Support

The MYLNS programme has a new member. Welcome, Louie Otis, our newest BSC therapy dog. Louie is a 19 month old ‘Roodle’ (Standard Poodle/Rottweiler). He passed his last assessment this week, under the instruction of Megs and the wonderful trainers at Playful Paws. He has already had a huge impact on everyone he is working with and there are so many smiles all around.
