Remembrance Day Commemoration

Bairnsdale Secondary College commemorated Remembrance Day on Monday 13th November.  Our year 9 Humanities students attended the service.

2024 College Captains John, Lara, Taj and Darcie shared their thoughts on what Remembrance Day means to them and RSL representative Mr Ray Rock delivered the Ode.

We will remember them.  Lest we forget.

Year 8 Buchan Caves and Coast Guard Excursion

On the 21st of November year 8 students journeyed to Lakes Entrance and Buchan Caves.

We started the day at the Lakes Coast Guard, where students learned about the creation of the surrounding lakes and the impact of human activity on the aquatic ecosystem. We then had a tour, where the students had the opportunity to explore the radio room, jet ski hold, and the rescue boat. The highlight of the visit however was watching and learning about the Dolphin 1, a Remote-Controlled Lifebuoy that could tow 200kg!

Following the coastal tour, we then made out way to Buchan, where students explored the Royal Cave. Accompanied by tour guides, students learned about the cave's history, the intricate formations, and the role of environment in ensuring the preservation of the caves.

Students have been studying Geology in Science and both natural and man-made landscapes in Humanities. By attending this excursion students gained a greater understanding of the impacts on the different landscapes and the landforms that they are made up of.

Year 8 and 9 German Christmas

German Christmas decorations have a rich history. In Germany, Christmas trees were traditionally decorated with candles, apples and nuts. Over time, other ornaments like glass baubles and wooden figurines became popular. Paper ornaments have been a cherished part of German Christmas traditions for many years.

One popular type of paper ornament is the 'Stern' or star. These delicate stars are made by folding and cutting paper into intricate patterns. They are often hung on Christmas trees or used as window decorations. These ornaments add a beautiful tough to any holiday setting 🎄❄️
