From the Classrooms

FOUNDATION

The foundation students loved their session with Kaboom when Larry and Zina ran different sports games. Their favourite activities included the parachute, fruit frisbee, strawberry launch, spinning wheel, trampoline ball… although it was hard to pick favourites.

Over the last three weeks we have had the foundation grandparents come into our classroom on a Thursday afternoon. We have read to them, played board games and made a flower for World Kindness Day. We are looking forward to having them join us next Thursday to make Christmas cookies.

During the week the foundation students enjoyed the warmer weather and took their maths lesson outside to the sandpit to learn about capacity. Students selected two containers, filled one then poured it into the other. Our vocabulary focused on it holds more/less/the same to compare the capacity.

Grade 1/2

What a fantastic time we had with Larry and Zina from KABOOM Sports! Engaging in 12 exciting activities, we tossed frisbees into bins, mimicked the Matildas by scoring goals with soccer balls, swung golf sticks for a hole in one, lifted a vibrant, massive parachute and had many dance offs with the teachers!  Our enjoyment was heightened by the assistance of five grade 5 student leaders who did an outstanding job. We had the best morning EVER!!!

This week we were lucky enough to have Sheryn Long, a speech therapist from the CEO come in and help our students with their sentence structures and expansion. We learnt that a sentence always has to have a subject and a verb. We then had a go at writing sentences with “expensive” words. The students did a great job and we thanked Sheryn for coming in.

We also got to experience our first Mass for the year since the church reopened.  So many good things are happening this term!

LITERACY

Our students have been thoroughly immersed in the world of narrative writing. They've embraced the freedom to create personal narratives, drawing inspiration from visual prompts. Currently, they've embarked on a revision of narratives with a festive Christmas twist, as they write stories for their buddies.

The enthusiasm and creativity displayed by the children during this writing have been truly delightful. From sharing imaginative ideas to crafting engaging introductions, our students are bringing their narratives to life.

We're eagerly waiting and can't wait to see the wonderful stories that will unfold.

MATHS

In our current exploration of "Location and Coordinates," students are delving into the fascinating world of positioning, mapping, and coordinates. This topic offers a wonderful opportunity for them to grasp the essential concepts of understanding scales and navigating through real-world scenarios using maps.

Our students have actively engaged in practical activities, utilising maps to enhance their understanding of coordinates and spatial relationships. As we approach the end of the year, time has been spent reviewing and testing for our reporting process.

RELIGION

As we immerse ourselves in the Advent/Christmas unit, our students have embarked on a meaningful exploration of the significance of Advent and its special place in the liturgical year. Through discussions, reflections, and expressions, they are delving into the importance of this sacred season.

Our students are sharing insights about the virtues associated with Advent, recognising the need to embrace joy, show love, foster peace, and give hope in anticipation of the birth of Jesus Christ. Their reflections highlight the special place that Christ holds in our lives.
