Year 7 and 8

A peek into the student lives of our year 7 and 8 students this term

As we approach the end of another incredible year, we take this moment to reflect on the journey that was 2023. It has been a year filled with achievements, growth, and memorable moments.

Students have shown impressive research projects, and our classrooms have been vibrant hubs of learning and intellectual exploration. We commend our dedicated faculty for their unwavering support and guidance.

Beyond the classrooms, our students have excelled in various extracurricular activities. Whether on the sports field, in the arts, or through technology, our students have shown remarkable talent, endeavour and resilience.

As we close the chapter on an extraordinary year, we eagerly anticipate the possibilities that the future holds. We are confident that the friendships made, achievements unlocked, and challenges overcome will serve as a solid foundation for the exciting journey ahead.

Year 8B Maths at Sunbury College

It has been a great year in 8B Maths during the year. We have had 2 student teachers: one from Melbourne University and one from Australian Catholic University. Mr. Tan was from ACU and just completed his second teaching round prior to HeadStart. It’s a real privilege to support a keen and motivated adult who has chosen teaching for a career. In class, he offered several activities:

Explicit Teaching of content,

Games time (problem-solving strategies),

Worksheet tasks (multiple exposures for students),

Problem-Solving (10 minutes embedded into every class),

Manipulatives and review activities.

The students really enjoyed the class tasks. Here are a few images of the whole class frequency table. Students came to the whiteboard to supply their individual data on how far away from school they lived. It was put into a tally and a frequency was obtained. A Histogram was created on the board with the raw data obtained from the students. Great activity and all students were engaged and participating. Mr. Tan can be identified by his black jumper to the left of the students on the whiteboard.

We all had a great fun filled experience with Mr. Tan and it is great to help support a beginning teacher in their chosen career. Thanks go to all students of 8B who made his teaching round memorable and rewarding. The school looks forward to having more student teachers and supporting their teaching development as they become qualified in teaching.

Good luck to all student in 8B as they move into HeadStart and their 2024 subjects. I hope their experiences this year in maths class have been relatable, meaningful, and memorable. Wishing you all a happy and safe holiday break. See you all back in 2024.
