Year 9 and 10

A peek into year 9 and 10 activities this term

Year 9 Japanese – Making Taiyaki 🍥

Students in Year 9 Japanese celebrated their end-of-year learning by making Taiyaki, a Japanese traditional fish-shaped pancake. In preparation, students learned the recipe in Japanese and translated it into English. On the day, each student used fish-shaped moulds especially designed for Taiyaki. Many students tried the traditional red bean paste filling, to experience the Japanese popular sweet taste.  The biggest hit for the filling was, of course, chocolate! 🍫

Start of Advanced Science -Year 9 🧪

As the Headstart program commences, a fresh cohort of students has enthusiastically embraced the Advanced Science elective for Year 9. In our first week, students delved into hands-on applications of the Design Process through engaging challenges. They showcased their creativity by constructing towers using marshmallows and spaghetti and exploring the tensile strength of paper in captivating experiments. The significance of brainstorming ideas, testing prototypes, and reassessing solutions became evident as students seamlessly navigated through the Design Process. Teamwork took centre stage, highlighting the need for communication skills throughout the collaborative tasks.

The Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh ⛰

The Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh students completed their adventurous journey task by doing a day walk up Mt Macedon and a three-day camp to Wilsons Promontory. Students were responsible for planning the route, preparing their equipment and carrying everything in their packs. They walked a total of 42KMs across the three-day camp.

The year 10 Outdoor Ed 🚶🏻‍♂️

The year 10 Outdoor Ed class travelled to Apollo Bay and completed part of the Great Ocean Walk. Students had to carry everything in their packs, cook for themselves on the trangias and sleep in tents. On our last day, we stopped off in Lorne for a surfing lesson.
