Student Stationery 2024

This Friday all students will receive their stationery for next year. Families are asked to name and label all materials and return them ready for the first day of school on Tuesday 30th January 2024.  Year 4/5/6 will need bring along a pencil case to store their stationery. Year P/1/2/3 students have a pencil case as part of their school stationery supply.

All students are asked to bring a pair of headphones that will be kept in the classroom.  Many students already have these, and their pair of headphones will be passed on to their new teacher/s and classroom. These will be used when using iPads or Chromebooks.

ASSESSMENT

As the end of the year is fast approaching, plans for 2024 are well and truly underway. Assessments in maths have formally taken place this term with students completing PAT Maths Adaptive and a range of Essential Assessments. As Mathematics Leader, I have worked with all students to complete a universal, standardised screening called Acadience Maths.

Through the use of these assessment tools, we are able to track specific mathematical skills for all students. We can accurately identify misconceptions and detect specific areas of need where students require extra support and Intervention.

INTERVENTION SESSIONS IN 2024

With our new STM Learning Enhancement Centre opening in 2024, we are excited to announce that we will be using a new evidence based program called Corrective Mathematics to assist students who require additional support in Numeracy.

Corrective Mathematics teaches students the strategies they need for learning facts, working computation problems, and solving story problems. Corrective Mathematics' consistent and carefully sequenced lessons quickly bring students up to date on core skills. Each skill is taught so students fully understand it and practise it until it is mastered.

The Corrective Mathematics program will complement the whole class program and is led by me. Our LSO staff will work with students in small group settings, 4 times a week for 45 minutes. These sessions will target the needs of each student.

MATHEMATICS IN 2024

Numeracy blocks in 2024 will continue to be uninterrupted to ensure all students have the opportunity to develop and consolidate their learning. Explicit instruction in Mathematics continues to involve directly teaching students the content or skill to be learned. Daily reviews will be consistently used across the school and include areas in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, Statistics and Probability as well as Problem Solving. These reviews strengthen previous learning and can lead to fluent recall.

We thank you for your continued support.

Thank you

A huge thank you to Karla Loupetis, Marie Gurjic and Jael Velasco for their assistance in covering many of our decodable books for our new Learning Enhancement Centre.  It was a mammoth task, and we are grateful for their help and support to complete this job.

Thank you to all of our families for their support throughout the year. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe holiday period.

Best wishes and see you in 2024,

Danielle
