Zone Athletics Sports:
Last week, we sent a big contingent to the Zone Athletic Sports at Trusts Stadium. Our children were awesome, and we are very proud of them.
We will follow up with a couple of problems that arose this year. The running of the event relies on volunteers and helpers, so we do not want to find fault. However, events such as shot put and discus have very clear standards for the right way to put a shot or throw a discus.
Our children were taught and trained strictly according to the official standard. Sadly, the volunteers did not require those standards on the day as they did not know what was expected. It meant our children competed to the standard and other schools didn't. This meant we did not win a single throwing event for the first time. Even the measuring system for the discus was quite ridiculous.
Never mind, it will be done properly next year, and we look forward to that. I watched some incredible performances from our children. Mikael and Manhala won every race they entered - short and long-distance events - including all their finals. Manhala also won high jump. Well done to all our competitors and well done to coach Nuree, an outstanding coach and teacher.
I'll get results through as a live update to this page as soon as I can.
PS - check out the picture below of Zach and one of the (giant) competitors he had to race against!
