Kia Ora Friends

Since last I wrote, our Junior and Senior Jump Jam teams have been crowned New Zealand Champions. Each team competed in the highest category available, scoring outstanding results.

Our Middle School 'Car Wash' team won the North Island and National Title for the Year 4 Advanced Category - for the second year in a row. They scored Excellence for Creativity, Technical Execution, and Presentation. They also gained Distinction for Costumes.

Our Senior School 'Halloween' team won the North Island and National Title for the Year 5-6 Ultimate Category. They scored Distinction for Creativity, Costumes, Technical Execution, and Presentation. They had a total score of 99.3 out of 100! This team was also awarded the Sportsmanship Award.

Both teams were proudly sponsored by Team Ashby at Harcourts. Each member was gifted a named hoodie to wear and keep. (They LOVE their hoodies by the way.)

We are incredibly proud of all 36 children involved in the Jump Jam Teams this year.

We acknowledge the outstanding hard work, creativity and passion of the teams and their coaches, Jenna Ramadan and Rebekah King. Both coaches were students at Western Heights a few years ago. Both did JumpJam as students before coming back to be coaches (and teachers) of the highest standard and achievement.

We had about 20 staff travel down to Tauranga to support our teams and an awesome 'westy' parent contingent. We certainly made ourselves heard and known with cheers, whoops and general encouragement!

Our 'Halloween' team received an instantaneous standing ovation from all the judges - something I had never seen before. To receive the complete set of Distinction Awards and just shy of a perfect score in total is quite phenomenal.

No pressure on next year's teams!

Teacher Only Day - Friday 24 November:

Every school in New Zealand has to hold a Teacher Only Day (on the revised New Zealand Curriculum) in the second half of November.

We tried hard to coordinate with other schools but, in the end, had to go with the day that worked best for us - Friday, 24 November.

NO school for children tomorrow.

As always - if you have questions or concerns about anything school-related - email me at macash@mac.com, and I will get back to you asap.

My very best regards to you all,

Ash Maindonald

Principal.
