We are learning to critique the text as an example of genre.

VOCABULARY

Genre: A style or category of a book for example science fiction or realistic fiction.

Critique: A detailed evaluation of the quality of something. 

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Read a fiction book with your child, get them to identify the sub-genre of the text. Have them justify their response with evidence from the text and identify the characteristics of the text that make it that particular sub-genre. Finally, they have to critique whether the text was a good example of that kind of sub-genre.
