STEM NEWS

Grade 1 and Prep students mixed together baking soda and conditioner to make pretend snow. They were given the challenge to build a snowman and decorate it.

If you would like to try this at home you will need the following:

• 3 cups baking soda

• 1/2 cup white coloured conditioner

 • measuring cups

• 2 popsicle sticks

 • small beads and pipe cleaners for decorations

Grade 2 students have been making a simple conveyor belt which uses two fixed axle cylinders with a circular belt. They used materials from the Makerspace including cardboard, cylinders, skewers, fabric and air-dry clay.

Grade 3/4 students have been exploring how heat is a form of energy. They made a heat spinner and observed how air can create movement. Then, students used their heat spinners to experiment with a heat source (an incandescent bulb) and discovered how heat energy can make the spinner move.

PERFORMING ARTS NEWS

In Performing Arts in Grade 2, one of the things we are learning is beat passing. We assign an action to each of the four beats to create a pattern that we use to pass egg shakers. It can be quite tricky to get right, but when everyone is playing as a team and concentrating, it works!
