National Solar Challenge

Congratulations to Daniel, Samika and Vanshi who competed in the National Solar Challenge held in Hobart on the weekend against primary, secondary and senior secondary students. The rain and overcast weather conditions were a challenge for all the competitors. Daniel, Samika and Vanshi achieved their personal best and enjoyed this valuable experience. Congratulations!

Science Talent Search

Congratulations to the Science Talent Search Bursary entrants who received their medals, monetary prizes and certificates this week at assembly.

There were several different sections that the students could enter. The overarching theme for this year was ‘Innovations: Powering Future Industries’. All the students worked extremely hard over several months to prepare their projects. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Evans for encouraging and supporting students with the Science Talent Search, she has done an amazing job. I am looking forward to more students participating in this opportunity next year.

School Disco

Last Friday ‘disco fever’ returned to Syndal South. It was an amazing success with the students (and staff) having a fabulous time!  There was lots of dancing and very loud singing, the atmosphere was electric.

The consensus from the students was that the disco was AWESOME!

Review

The official set of meetings that have been taking place over the past three weeks have now concluded. Today, at the final panel day the panel reflected on the data and findings from the review process and came to a shared understanding of the school’s strengths and areas for growth. Agreement was reached on the next steps to be taken and articulated the most appropriate goals, targets, and key improvement strategies for the next Strategic Plan. The reviewer now develops a report reflecting the panels findings. The report will include the key directions for the next School Strategic Plan. The report will be presented to staff and then received by School Council. The goals, targets, and key improvement strategies flow into the draft school strategic plan. The school vision and values are captured in the school strategic plan, which is then progressed for endorsement by the Department of Education.

Chess Success!

Earlier this month Lucas form Year 2 competed in the Junior Primary Zonal Chess Tournament and won a silver medal. It is always wonderful to hear about these amazing accomplishments of our talented students. Lucas must be congratulated on his depth of thinking and his diligence at such a young age. Super effort! Lucas.

Christmas Card Art Competition

Earlier in the term, an invitation from Dr Carina Garland, member for Chisolm, was received

inviting all the Primary Schools in the Chisholm electorate to participate in an art competition for her 2023 Christmas Card.

She asked students to prepare artwork to be featured on her Christmas Card which will be sent to around 64,000 households in the Chisholm electorate. The theme of the artwork was to reflect the students’ vision of what Christmas means to them.

I am thrilled to announce that Maria from Year 5 won the competition. Congratulations Maria, you are a super art star! This is yet another example of the student talent that we nurture here Syndal South Primary School.

Parent’s Association

Last night I attended the PA’s Annual General Meeting. It was an opportunity to look back over the year and celebrate all the accomplishments of this tireless group of wonderful parents. The staff and students are extremely grateful for the support we have had over the year from the PA for a variety of activities. Last night was also a night to say a huge thank you to Kate Edwards-Davies.  Kate has been a member of the PA since her first son Charlie started in Prep 10 years ago and her second son Daniel is one of our 2023  graduating Year 6 students. As well as Kate’s involvement in PA, Kate and husband Bryan have given many hours of support to the school House Athletics days, which too has been greatly appreciated. Sincere thanks to you both.

Festive Celebration

Finally, a reminder about our ’Festive Celebration’ that is fast approaching. All the students have been rehearsing their special musical item to share with you. So, next Friday the 8th December come along and enjoy a night of entertainment to celebrate a wonderful 2023 school year. Further details are in this newsletter and will also be distributed via the classroom.

Have a great fortnight!
