Good luck to our 13s Boys Basketball, First Girls Basketball, Junior Girls Basketball, First Boys Touch Football and Junior Girls Touch Football on their Semi-Final games this Saturday. We already have got some teams straight through into their Grand Finals; 14s Boys Basketball, Open Girls Basketball and First Girls Touch Football. Please go along and show your support to these teams. All the best!

Sisters in Sport Leadership Day

Today, our Girl Sports Captains got to attend the 2026 Sisters in Sport Leadership Day. The theme of the day was 'Outplaying the Past'. We heard from amazing guest speakers: Molly Taylor, Chloe Dalton and Katina Janev. These speakers provided insights on leadership and how to navigate those paths forward. Key takeaways for all are to be intentional and do not forget that mistakes are part of the learning process.

Well worth the early departure from Wentworth Falls station!

NSW All Schools Triathlon

On Thursday 26th February, nine students represented BMGS at the NSW All Schools Triathlon at the Sydney International Regatta Centre. They participated as a relay team with each member completing a different leg of the race – 300m swim, 10km bike ride and 3km run. Despite the rain, all three teams demonstrated determination and grit to achieve strong results amongst a very talented field.

Our three teams were:

  • Junior Boys – Leroy Stafford (swim); Yanni Garber-Greenwood (bike) and Manuel-Marques Sidarous (run). Finished 102 out of 180, CIS: 25 of 35.

  • Senior Boys – Fabian Boda-Tulogdi (swim); Luke Gibson (bike) and Xavier Stephens (run). Finished 43 out of 126, CIS 15 of 20.

  • Senior Girls – Rose Perisce-Burrell (swim); Kiah Stubenrauch (bike) and Jess Harris (run). Finished 75 out of 126, CIS 8 of 25.

Match Reports

TOUCH FOOTBALL

Junior Boys

In very hot afternoon conditions, we went down 13–2. We competed well and worked hard throughout, but the heat caught up with us late in the game. Thanks to everyone who came, put in the effort, and helped out. Well done Ali and Max for scoring.

BASKETBALL

Firsts & Open Girls

The Opens had two tough games to end the season. In Week 9 they played the undefeated Chevalier team. The girls were unable to match the speed of Chevalier, losing 41-22. Eadie, Iluka and Poppy had strong games. The last round saw the girls having to win to progress to the semi-final. In their best defensive effort of the year the girls defeated Oxley 23-20. Arabella played extremely well with strong support from Lola and Georgia. The Firsts had two wins. The first game against Barker, the girls played strong defence winning 40-10. All the girls performed well with Hannah, Lillian, Isabelle and Ruby leading the way. The last game was a great contest. The girls found it hard to defend Oxley but eventually pulled away winning 36-23.  Evie, Abigail and Maggie had strong games. The girls now progress to the Grand Final in two weeks' time.

Junior Girls

The Junior Girls Basketball Team has shown outstanding commitment, resilience, and growth throughout this season. Week after week, they have demonstrated incredible teamwork, determination, and a willingness to keep improving, both individually and as a squad. Their hard work has truly paid off, and we are so proud to congratulate them on earning a well-deserved place in the semi-finals. This achievement reflects not only their skill on the court but also their dedication, sportsmanship, and positive attitude. Well done, girls — we can’t wait to see what you accomplish next!

13s Boys

The U13s team faced a tall and physically imposing opponent in St Augustine's and, despite a heavy defeat, demonstrated impressive determination throughout the match. Every player contributed in their own valuable way, showing commitment and teamwork regardless of the scoreboard. Their boxing out and rebounding improved significantly, reflecting their strong focus and intent during the game. The players should be proud of the way they competed and supported one another.

Firsts Boys v Oakhill

After a disappointing loss last week, the First boys were looking for a strong game to rebound against Oakhill. We lost to this team last time, and we were keen not to repeat that again as we felt we were the better team.

The game started well, as we held our own in the first quarter. Our pressure defence led to a 20-point lead, which was then extended as we continued to get out and run in transition. The team put on a clinic of selfless basketball, and we pulled away with a 30+ point victory, including a half-court shot from our team captain. Despite not being able to make finals from here, we are looking forward to finishing the season on our terms, playing team basketball and having fun.

Firsts Boys v St Augustines

There was an air of anticipation as it was the last game for our Year 12 students. We agreed that whilst it was important to farewell the Year 12s, that we were still going to prioritise winning over selfish play – exactly what this team has done all season.

In the end, it worked out perfectly – our defence led to us getting a large lead, and we were both making winning plays AND getting good shots for our departing seniors. Whilst there was a wobble late in the fourth quarter where it looked like we were going to cough our lead, the boys finished strong and claimed the 10-point victory, capped off by a second half-court heave from Tom on the buzzer.

The excitement that followed was entirely deserved – these boys have played wonderfully all season, have worked hard and represented the school with pride. Despite not achieving what we set out to do, we most certainly grew together as a unit, and we stuck together instead of falling apart.

For the Year 12s (in both teams); the best of luck on your journeys! For the returning players; onto next year for bigger and better things

17s Boys v Oakhill

Being undefeated in 2026, the U17s Boys were looking to continue their hot streak against Oakhill – a team that beat us by 30 last time we played them. A win would see us have a chance of making semi-finals (if results went our way), and a loss would see us knocked out for sure.

We came out very strong, holding our own against an undermanned but very hungry Oakhill team. The score stayed within 5 points the entire way, with the boys making winning play after winning play to keep us just ahead. In the last few minutes, we went on a run, fuelled by our disciplined defence and selfless offence, and we pulled away to win by 7. The boys were nothing short of fantastic, as we executed our game plan to perfection – onto next week with a shot at the finals!

17s Boys v St Augustines

With other school’s results not going in our favour, it was unfortunate that the team could not make finals from this point. We had sick players, and some people away, meaning that for the 4th time this season we were playing with 5 players (including our sick one!)

Most teams in this situation decide that it’s a game off – not the 17s Boys. We stuck it to a very physical St Augustines team, who were fighting for their own place in semis. We were aggressive, disciplined and took our opportunities when they came. We kept it a close game all the way to the end – until one of their players hit three 3-pointers to put them up 10 in the dying minutes, a lead they carried to the end of the game.

Despite the loss, I could not think of a more suiting finish to their season. Being undermanned all season, with a maximum of 7 players at each game, and routine fill-ins from other teams, these boys decided to play team basketball rather than do it all themselves. They made the most of their situation, and represented the school incredibly well every time they stepped on the floor.

At the start of the season, we thought we would be lucky to win some games. By the end, we were just 2 close losses away. I hope the boys are as proud of themselves as I am of them.
