Speeding on Campus
Blue Mountains Grammar School has been blessed with beautiful campuses, for which we are deeply grateful. With beautiful gardens, majestic trees and sweeping views to the lake, our Wentworth Falls Campus is particularly special. Our Springwood Campus is often described as a bush school, set in the tree-tops and looking out across the sassafras and blue-gums that characterise the Lower Mountains. As a community we share these campuses with many hundreds of children deep in learning and play, parents, grandparents, volunteers, staff and wellbeing dogs, not to mention (at Wentworth Falls) several hundred wood ducks that make our lawns their home.
In this context, I have been concerned to see the speed with which some parents and visitors have been driving on our grounds. Please note that the speed limit on both our campuses is a strict 10 kilometres per hour, which should mean cars travel no faster than a brisk walk or slow jog. This speed limit is in place to ensure the safety of our children, staff and visitors, as well as the animals and wildlife that help to make our campuses special. Our driveways, drop-off areas and carparks must be understood as shared pedestrian and vehicular spaces, in which vehicles give way at all times to those on foot.
While I understand the busyness of daily life and can sometimes feel rushed and time-poor myself, I ask that parents and visitors to our beautiful campuses adhere strictly to the 10 kilometres per hour speed limit at all times while driving on our campuses.
Thank you in advance for protecting the safety of our children and all those who share our campuses.
