MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

2026

It has been fantastic to reconnect with the Hackham East Primary School community after my time as principal at another site in 2025. I am grateful for the warm welcome I’ve received from both families and students on my return. Returning to Hackham East has reminded me just how welcoming our school is, and I am excited to continue supporting Ms Sally in leading our school community in 2026.

Walking through our classrooms in the first few weeks, it was pleasing to see calm and inviting learning spaces, with students actively engaged and upholding our high behaviour expectations: We are respectful, we are inclusive, and we are learners. It’s clear that these expectations are thriving at Hackham East and are the foundation for positive relationships and successful learning.

Thank you to all the parents and caregivers who attended last week’s ‘meet and greets.’ Your strong turnout and ongoing involvement make a significant difference in the partnership between home and school. Please continue to reach out to your child’s teacher throughout the year when needed. Please do this through either a private message via Seesaw or phoning the school to organise a mutually convenient time to meet. If you haven’t already, please connect with your child’s Seesaw as well as the school’s Facebook page to keep up to date with student learning, class and whole school activities.

It was also a great to connect with families at our recent First Nations afternoon tea on Monday afternoon. As I take on the role of Aboriginal Education Teacher as part of my Deputy Principal role, I am especially keen to continue to strengthen our relationships with First Nations families and to ensure our school is a welcoming and culturally safe place for everyone.

At Hackham East we are committed to fostering confident, responsible and inclusive leaders. Our Year 5/6 classes are full of students who consistently display leadership potential or students who have leadership potential but just may not realise it yet. Our Special Sports Course this year is moving towards developing students’ leadership capabilities and dispositions through our Leadership through Community and Sport program.

There will still be a sports focus for students whose passion is sport, but for students who have different passions, there will be opportunities for them to develop their leadership qualities through their passions as well. A students’ Growth Mindset towards developing their communication skills, ability to be empathetic and inclusive, set and act on goals and use their initiative is going to bring about further opportunities in life and beyond school. I am looking forward to supporting these students this year.

Warm regards,

Scott Megson
