In Year 1& Year 2...

Learning About Our Community – Real Life, Real Learning!

Year 1 and Year 2 students have been exploring their Inquiry unit on Community through hands-on experiences and real-life connections. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they learn about how communities work and the important role people play.

We were fortunate to welcome Ms Lloyd and Paige from Guide Dogs, who taught students how Guide Dogs support people with vision impairment to live safely and independently. Students also learnt how to behave safely and respectfully around these important working dogs.

Students also met Anna and Gail, our Lollipop Ladies, who shared the important work they do to keep our school community safe. They explained the road safety rules we all follow — stop, look, listen and wait — and how their role helps keep everyone safe during busy times.

A highlight for many students was a visit from the local police. Students explored a police car, heard the sirens and learnt about the important role police play in keeping our community safe. They were also reminded that in an emergency, the number to call in Australia is 000.

In the classroom, students have been learning about different places through our Tiny Town, taking on roles such as shop owners, hairdressers, restaurant workers, vets and doctors. Through this play-based learning, students are developing teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills while discovering how different jobs support our community.

To celebrate their learning, students will take part in a Community Day Parade, dressing up as a community helper.

In Year 4 ...

Year 4 students attended the Terra Australis Oi, Oi, Oi incursion, where they used drama, costumes and props to re-enact important events in Australian history. They learned about early explorers, life on the goldfields, the Eureka Stockade, and famous figures such as Ned Kelly, helping them develop a deeper understanding of the people and events that shaped our nation.
