LOOK WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING IN AUSLAN AT MPHPS
Hello everyone,
We’ve had another fantastic fortnight in the Auslan classroom! It has been wonderful to see students confidently practising the signs they have learned and showing such enthusiasm for their learning.
SIGNS OF THE WEEK
Don’t forget to ask your child to show you some of the Auslan signs they have been learning. Over the past fortnight, we have been revising many of the signs introduced last year to strengthen students’ confidence and recall.
Our Signs of the Week are ‘good morning’, ‘good afternoon’, and 'good night.’ We encourage you to practise these at home together!
IN THE CLASSROOM
Years 3 – Students will continue to revise our School Values: Respect, Perseverance and Collaboration. They will also continue revising and strengthening their understanding of the Auslan alphabet, building confidence in both recognising and producing each sign accurately.
Year 4 – Students will continue to revise our School Values: Respect, Perseverance and Collaboration. They will also consolidate their understanding of Auslan signs related to the alphabet, numbers and animals, further developing their confidence and accuracy.
Year 5 – Students will continue to revise our School Values: Respect, Perseverance and Collaboration. They will build on their learning of nature-related vocabulary and will be introduced to signs and phrases connected to sports and recreation.
Year 6 – Students will continue to revise our School Values: Respect, Perseverance and Collaboration. Students will be learning how to tell the time in Auslan. They will explore how to sign different times of the day, including o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to, as well as how to ask and respond to questions about time.
Learning Auslan offers rich benefits for everyone. For students who are Deaf or hard of hearing, it is a vital means of communication. For hearing students, it provides a meaningful opportunity to connect with and better understand the Deaf community.
