Head of Primary Years' Report

Dear parents, carers and our community of Hazel Glen College,
Heading into the well deserved Easter Break, we can reflect on the success of Term 1. We have been extremely proud of our students this term and how they have worked with their peers and teachers to establish clear routines and norms for their 2026 class groups. Students have engaged and participated in learning and extra-curricular programs and we have seen the high standard of learning this term shared at the Learning Expo last week. I enjoyed hearing how the students articulated their new learnings and I could see the collaboration and effort in their project work displayed in the afternoon. Our Year 6s have shown leadership and role modelling as a cohort and they recently came together at their Step Up and Stand Out Day, where they learnt all about supporting each other.
Today, we held our annual Easter Bonnet Parade and it was fantastic to see the creations of Easter hats, ears and decorations made by our students and families. We had many prizes given away this year in our Easter Raffle and we would like to acknowledge the following local businesses and families who supported with donations of chocolate gifts. Thank you to Tanya Eiken (HGC parent) on behalf Morrison and Kleeman, Bakers Delight Laurimar, Kmart Plenty Valley and Woolworths Mernda Town Centre. We have many happy students taking home gifts of chocolate for the holidays.
We have continued to see positive initiatives introduced across the Primary Years in Term 1 with the introduction of positive acknowledgments for students in the yard during recess and lunch times who may be demonstrating our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support matrix expectations and College values. Our staff are always on the lookout for students who are doing great things out in the yard to support a positive school environment. The clubs program is up and running and provides a range of interest areas for students to visit during break times to meet new friends, spend time on their interests or to develop new skills.
Our tours for prospective enrolments have been positive, with many new families coming along to experience our wonderful Primary Years. Prep 2027 enrolments open at the beginning of Term 2. If you know of anyone seeking enrolment for next year, please encourage them to contact the office or download the necessary form from the College website.
The holiday season can be a wonderful time for rest and connection, but it can also bring added pressures for some families. If you or someone you know needs support over the break, a range of local services remains available.
Local GPs - Your family doctor remains an important first point of contact for health, wellbeing, and mental health concerns. Regular check ups are important and early intervention can make a big difference if you have any social/emotional or other health issues for your child/ren.

Community and Local Services - Many community organisations continue to offer counselling, family support, financial assistance, and wellbeing services throughout the holidays. Families are encouraged to contact local providers or the local council if support is required.
Hazel Glen College remains committed to the wellbeing of all students and families. Reaching out to trusted professionals and community services can make a meaningful difference and help ensure a safe, supported holiday period for everyone.
Today we farewell Ms Jess Frangos as she commences her leave to await the impending arrival of her baby. We will miss her at Hazel Glen College and wish her all the best on this next chapter of her journey and we look forward to hearing her news in the near future. We thank Ms Frangos for her ongoing contributions to the College and look forward to her return.
