In gardening this week we have been busy with helping to add and make compost, help drive some straw and soil to the gardens. Plant silverbeet and dig for potatoes, the potatoes we found were used in this weeks cooking lesson.

  • Expanding a students palate to try new foods not normally tried
  • Making the meals boots confidence
  • Following a recipe uses maths and reading skills, one for following the recipe and the other for knowing how much of an ingredient you need
  • Understand where food comes from - where do we get it and how does it get to us?
  • The process of cooking food demonstrates chemistry principles
  • The differences in foods and different cultures they are from

In Reading we have been focussing on PIE-ED, this to look at what the Author's purpose is.

Why does the Author write, An author’s purpose is his reason for or intent in writing. An author’s purpose may be to amuse the reader, to persuade the reader, to inform the reader, to entertain the reader, to explain the reader, and to describe the reader.

                                                                    Writing

In writingstudents have been working hard on genres. This week we have been looking at fairytales and comics. Students have spent time writing their own fairytales and comics.

                                                                       Maths

In maths we have been looking back into place value and location.

In location we have been looking at location and a birds eye view - which is drawing something from above. The task was for students to replicate a room in their house or a room in the school.

                                                                Investigation

This term we are working with cooking and Chemical sciences. This week we explored what materials are and what are they made from.

This week we looked at different materials and seperated them into something we eat, something we make and something you play with. We compared them all and found similarities and differences.

We hope you enjoy our addition this week and we will be hosting assembly next Friday if there is any parents that want to join us!
