Year 5/6
Welcome back to Term 3 everyone! We would like to thank all the parents who came along to Parent/Teacher interviews last week. It was wonderful to be able to sit down to have a chat with so many parents and carers and discuss your student's learning, and how best we can continue to support them through Semester 2.
English
Students have begun Term 2 by analysing and creating a range of information texts, such as news reports, biographies and encyclopaedic reports. Below, you can see some examples of news reports that students have created based on fictional stories and fairy tales (to see more examples of student work - please visit your student's Seesaw posts.) As the term continues, students will also be writing information texts on athletes and sports that are being highlighted at this year's Olympic Games.
Maths
We have begun the term with a unit on Fractions and Decimals. We have looked at real life examples of simple fractions and decimals, comparing fractions and decimals, representing these on number lines, adding and subtracting all the whilst developing a better understanding the place value system where numbers can be represented beyond hundredths.
Humanities
At the end of Term Two, students concluded our Business and Economics Unit with our annual Market Day. With more than 20 stalls between the two classes, students produced jewellery, food items, drinks, sensory fidgets, game competitions, toys, raffle items with all money raised going to our chosen charity Zoe's Fight and our end of Year Celebration.
A huge congratulations to all students.
With the Olympics currently taking place, during the first 4 weeks of Term Three we have looked at the History of the Ancient Olympic Games, the Modern Olympics, Athlete Profiles whilst Reporting on events and history making moments from our Australian Athletes.
