Reminders:

  • We will be heading to Myuna Farm on Tuesday 6th August (Week 4). Information has been sent out via the QKR app for permission and payment. Students will be exploring Living Things on the Farm- waste, produce gardening, paddock feeding and train ride to the wetlands. We recommend gumboots (and a raincoat/warm coat/beanie if the weather decides to be difficult) for this day to ensure school shoes aren't ruined!
  • Please send in your child's reading satchel every day. We go to Library on Thursday so please ensure their satchel and/or library bag is packed or they will not be able to borrow for home.
  • Learning starts promptly in the morning. Please remember to take/remind your child to use the toilet before the 8.45am bell so nothing important is missed.
  • Please be mindful that mornings are a time filled with lesson prepping, staff collaboration and preparation for the day. We are always happy to schedule meetings with parents and guardians on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, alternatively feel free to email us with any questions, comments or concerns.

Upcoming Learning:

Literacy

In the next few weeks our focus sounds in phonics are oi/oy and oo (oops!) and oul/u.

We have started reading a year level chapter book, one that you will be familiar with, 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' by Roald Dahl. We will be looking at interesting vocabulary we find in the novel and using this language to help us to persuade a reader. We will be exploring a range of advertisements, and identifying ways to catch the audience's attention, such as slogans, imagery and strong vocabulary. Students will be creating advertisements of their favourite chocolates, if you could please send in your child's favourite chocolate or lolly, we will be using this as a way for your child to strengthen their descriptive writing.

Numeracy

Over the next few weeks, we will be continuing our work on skip counting and non-zero starting points, understanding doubles up to twenty, and beginning to look into directional language in regard to mapping.

We will be continuing our work in problem solving and using our mathematical skills to communicate our ideas and work through a problem.

We have been playing a new fluency game, 'Five in a row', which is a fun game that you can play at home.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, we are beginning the unit 'Uses of Earth's Resources'. Students will develop an understanding of Earth's resources (soil, energy and water), their uses and the importance of conservation.

Wellbeing

In Wellbeing, we will be exploring help seeking strategies, to support our student's mental health and wellbeing. It is important to work with students to make sure they are aware of help-seeking avenues and are confident to seek help when needed.
