LITERACY

Our phonics focus this week has been 'air' as in 'Airy Fairy Fair', 'are', 'Beware the Scarecrow' and 'Where, There?'.  We have been learning about the triple Homophones, 'there, their, they're' and the meaning of each one and how it is used correctly in a sentence. Students have been learning about the conjunction, 'So' and how it is used to connect phrases in a sentence to give more information.

In reading we have been learning all about information reports and knowing the difference between fiction and non-fiction books. We have been looking at what features you find in an information report and naming them. We are also looking at different poems.

In writing we have been focusing on what makes good text structure. Students are being exposed to vocabulary that can encourage them to make appropriate word choices such as which Adjective could we add to a noun to give more detail and make our writing more exciting.

NUMERACY

We have been learning about ABC patterns and how this is a unit of 3 shapes, objects, colours or sounds that are repeated to make a pattern. Children have had fun creating their own ABC patterns.

INQUIRY

Our focus is on Chemical Science seeing students looking at different materials that change shape. We have been researching different materials that can be bent or stretched to change shape.

WELLBEING

We are focusing on different strategies to help us stay calm when we are faced with things that may have us feeling frustrated, upset or angry. Children are learning these important social skills inside and outside of the classroom.

And that sees out the first week of Semester Two!

Enjoy the weekend. Try and stay warm and dry.
