Running simultaneously with the Briars Excursion our students have been learning about how to safely undertake dissections. During the Classification unit, our students have been learning how to classify the Phyla of our animal kingdom into vertebrates and invertebrates. All Year 7 classes have been dissecting a fish and a squid to look at the many and varied differences between these two creatures.

Apart from some complaints about the smell, the students have enjoyed the opportunity to participate in this Practical work and were fascinated by the beak and pen of the squid. The students had to be able to recognise and cleanly remove several internal body parts of each creature.
