LIVING CULTURES
On the 30th of July our year 7s learnt to listen deeply to our two First Nations’ presenters Hudson and Skyla form Living Cultures:
“Our presenter Hudson put on an amazing presentation about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures. He himself is from the Torres Strait Islands. He brought lots of artefacts, used by Aboriginal people for hunting, punishment, clothing, warmth and Art. He talked about each in detail, answered our questions and also passed the items around for us to hold.
My favourite object was the possum skin cloak. It was extremely soft and fluffy. I learnt that the fur from brushtail possums is as warm as the one from an Arctic fox. I also learnt that a shard of jasper is sharper than a surgeon’s scalpel. This experience has deepened my understanding of Indigenous Cultures and History. I really enjoyed it and learnt a lot.”
