Grade 5N
Term 4 has been a busy term for the Grade 5 students. So far, we have participated in our House Colours Sport event, been to Galen for the Junior School Production and had a visit to St Bernard’s Primary School for the Caritas Leadership Day. As we move towards the end of term, we still have our transition day, swimming and our End of Year Mass.
In the classroom, we have been just as busy. The following is a quick snapshot of what has been happening so far this term.
Literacy
We started the term by reading a text called ‘The Last Bear.’ The main character, April is a teenage girl who moves to a small island called Bear Island in the Arctic. Here she discovers and becomes friends with a the only polar bear on the island and eventually helps return him to his home in Svalbard. The students learnt about the current state of polar bear numbers and what is threatening them to write a persuasive letter to argue that more should be done to protect polar bears.
Maths
This term we have covered 3 different maths units. Our first unit related to a data investigation, where as a class students came up with a survey that they conducted then graph the information. Last week we finished a unit relating to percentages and their link to decimals and fractions, and we are currently developing our learning about the four operations.
Religion
We started the term by working through a unit were students developed their knowledge about social issues on a local, national and global level. We then linked this understanding to the scripture titled "The Beatitudes” to create our own version of scripture. We are currently working through our Advent unit where students are learning about the birth of Jesus through Matthew’s Gospel.
As we move towards the end of term, if you need anything please reach out to me.
Thanks
