Selamat hari natal dan tahun baru! (Merry Christmas and a happy new year)
We can’t believe it’s already the end of the year! I guess it’s true that time flies when you’re having fun, which we had plenty of in term 4!
Our year 7s wrapped up the year learning about schools in Indonesia, and finished off by creating a collaborative art piece with our sister school.
Our students were shocked to learn that Indonesian’s start school at 7am, and that many of the students in our sister school WALK two hours every day to and from school! Students spoke to their teachers in Indonesian about their favourite subjects and told us about their teachers. We were impressed by the incredible skills of all of our students!
All our year 8s finished off the year with everybody’s favourite topic: FOOD! We learnt how to plan where to eat and how to order food. Our students were shocked to find out some of their favourite foods are actually Indonesian, such as Nasi Goreng and Mie Goreng. We finished off the year by trying a variety of Indonesian snacks, foods, and drinks, such as dadar gulung (coconut filled pancakes), klepon (gooey pandan balls), es bandung (rose and sweetened condensed milk cordial), and bakso (Indonesian meat balls). If you would like to explore Indonesian cuisine further, we recommend trying Pondok Betawi in Hampton Park, or any of the amazing restaurants you can find around Melbourne.
Our year 7 students involved in the ASEAN-Australia BRIDGE program wrapped up their story about Miku the cat and are now patiently awaiting the results of the competition. We hope you enjoy watching their final story.
We have been so proud of all our students this year and hope that our year 8s will continue to engage in cultural and language learning in any way they can in the future, and we look forward to the year 7s continuing their language journey next year.
We hope everybody has a safe and enjoyable holidays and we will see you again in 2026!
From the 2025 Indonesian Team.
