Yr 11 Vocational Major - Day Trip to the City
On Tuesday Nov 11th, the Year 11 VM Class went on an excursion. It was a trip that had been planned by one of the students as our studies involved exploring maths in a recreational context. The Sealife Day Trip was nominated by the class as the trip to put into action.
Firstly, we all found our way to the meeting point at Parliament Station, meeting up with all of the class to prepare for our day of planned activities.
We then walked towards Mary Mackillop Heritage Centre. Part of our task was to include a Catholic place of interest. We were welcomed by Anna who spoke to us about the life of Mary Mackillop, our first Australian saint while we sat in the beautiful Mary Mackillop chapel. We were invited to take an item from the ‘Providence bag’ and Mary’s story unfolded as she explained the significance of each of the items. Before we left we took some time to browse the different information boards in the museum section of the centre.
Our next activity was supposed to be having recess in Fitzroy gardens. This was not such an inviting idea given the rain so Maree Keel (our school counsellor) led us around Fitzroy Gardens pointing out the places of interest especially the fairy tree and Captain Cook’s Cottage. We continued on towards Federation square where we paid our respects for Remembrance Day by standing together and observing a minute of silence. We thought there was going to be a formal screening from The Shrine but we didn’t see this. When we crossed over to the station we spoke to an army officer and an officer from the airforce who said that a bugler had stopped traffic at the Flinders St Station intersection and played the Last Post - we were sorry to miss this.
Next up we walked onto Sealife Melbourne Aquarium - we walked over 10,000 steps for the day which was great for our physical activity. Sealife was the highlight of our trip. We saw many marine species - the penguins were a class favourite and there was great debate over whether there was a real or model croc in the display tank. We enjoyed taking photos, especially at the Sealife photobooth. We had the opportunity to wander around the different marine areas with our group. Some students bought some jewellery and souvenirs at the gift shop at the end of the experience.
Once we finished our experience at Sealife we then walked around towards Maccas at Southern cross station for our super economical McSmart meal!!
The class was dismissed after lunch and everyone made their way back home via train. At the start of the day the weather looked grim and despite having to dodge rain, we had a great day. We showed our ability to be flexible and adaptable with our plans and it was a good reminder to make the best of things, rain or shine!

Yr 12 Vocational Major - Work Related Skills
In the last week of November, the Year 12 Vocational Major Work Related Skills class began their first Area of Study with a valuable industry visit to McDonald’s, exploring how a real workplace is organised and how staff wellbeing is supported.
This excursion provided a concrete, relatable context for students to think about workplace wellbeing, health and safety, and their own personal accountability at work.

Yr 8 - Wonder
This term in Wonder, our Year 8 students took part in the Innov8 Unit, where they were challenged to identify a real-world problem and develop a creative solution.
Sahana Aingaran and Jasmine Ung chose to address Australia’s treatment of asylum seekers, recognising it as an important social issue. Their response was The Crash Course Initiative — a thoughtful proposal for a more compassionate system for processing and integrating asylum seekers into the community.
To share their vision, Sahana and Jasmine sent their persuasive proposal and an accompanying artwork to the Hon. Tony Burke, Minister for Immigration. Their project beautifully embodied the 2025 College theme of Hospitality, and they eagerly await a response from the Minister about their inspiring initiative.
