2025 School Council

- Device Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

Throughout this year, the Education Sub-Committee of School Council has been reviewing our students’ use of iPads gathering feedback from students, parents, and staff.

This work aligns with Department of Education guidelines, to take effect in 2027 where schools will no longer invite families to purchase or bring their own device. The guidelines also set clear expectations for device use. While the Department’s requirements begin in 2027, school council has decided to introduce adjustments earlier. From the start of next year:

  • Prep–Grade 2 students will not bring personal devices to school. When technology is required, students will use school owned devices.

  • Grades 3–6 students may bring existing devices with these stored in a lockable trolley. Devices will be accessed when required and returned after use. They will no longer remain on desks or in bags.

  • Teachers in grades 3–6 will limit device time to a maximum of 90 minutes per day and will plan for at least two device-free days per week (or equivalent time).

The school’s mobile phone rules remain unchanged: phones brought to school must be handed in at the office on arrival and collected at the end of the day.

We recognise that families hold a range of views on digital device use. These decisions were made with careful consideration, significant consultation, and a focus on what we believe best supports student learning, health, and long-term wellbeing.

On behalf of school council, have a most wonderful Christmas and new year holiday, and we look forward to seeing you all back in the new school year.

Kind regards,

Vince Scarfo

School Council President
