The Catholic season of Advent has four weeks, each with a special theme to prepare for Christmas: week one is hope, week two is peace, week three is joy, and week four is love. During this time, families reflect, pray, and light candles on an Advent wreath, symbolizing the journey toward Jesus' birth.
Some information for Weeks One and Two.
Week One: Hope
This week focuses on the hope that God's promises would be fulfilled and the arrival of Jesus.
Light the first candle on the Advent wreath, often called the "Prophet's Candle," which reminds us of the prophecies about Jesus.
We light the first candle to remember that God promised to send a Savior. It's a time to hope and be excited for Jesus to come to the world.
Week Two: Peace
This week is about preparing our hearts for Jesus, just as God prepared the hearts of people long ago. It also celebrates the peace the angels announced at Jesus' birth.
Light the second candle, called the "Bethlehem Candle," which reminds us of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem.
We light the second candle to remember the journey to Bethlehem. We also think about the peace Jesus brings to our world.

We will once again be collecting Christmas gifts for Vinnies to provide something special for people in need at Christmas.
A flyer will be shared with school families suggesting suitable gift donations.
Remember non-perishable food items and toiletries can be donated to our local Vinnies at any time of the year. These donations can be left at the front office.

This year, Caritas Australia has launched a refreshed range of Global Gift cards for Christmas 2025, offering Australians a meaningful way to celebrate the festive season while embracing the true spirit of giving.
Featuring beautifully illustrated designs that reflect the tangible impact of each donation, every card represents a real item or service that helps transform lives, from clean water and education to food security and emergency aid.

Pope Leo XIV has asked the world to pray for Christians in areas of conflict in our world.
Please try to find some quiet time in your busy day to pray Pope Leo's Prayer Intention for the month of December. Thank you.
For Christians in areas of conflict

Let us pray that Christians living in areas of war or conflict, especially in the Middle East, might be seeds of peace, reconciliation, and hope.
Amen
