GALS Program

Over Term 4, 18 BHS students participated in the GALS Program (Girls as Leaders in STEM), an initiative led by Deakin University, designed to empower young women through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Working in four collaborative groups, the students developed innovative ideas to address global issues focused on inclusion and the environment.
Throughout the term, participants were mentored by Paige Mills from Deakin University and engaged with students from other local schools. These sessions helped refine their projects and strengthen their leadership skills, demonstrating the impact of youth engagement in STEM.
The program concluded with a Launch Night on 10 December 2025, where each group confidently presented their ideas and development process to a packed conference room. The BHS students spoke with clarity and assurance, sharing their journey, challenges, and successes. Their presentations highlighted not only their creativity and problem-solving skills but also the value of collaboration and mentorship in shaping future leaders.
