STAGE 3 NEWS
Stage 3 had a fantastic time away in Coffs Harbour last week. Over the course of three days, we participated in many fun activities and team-building exercises. Surfing and the Mud Run were definite highlights. We were fortunate to have excellent weather, and the students enjoyed catching some great waves while surfing. It was impressive to see so many students successfully ride the waves. We also enjoyed visiting the Marine Centre and the Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary, where we watched a dolphin show, had the opportunity to pet a dolphin, and learned a lot about our marine environment.
The Mud Run was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our team-building skills, highlighting the incredible support and encouragement the students offered one another to successfully complete the course. It was truly inspiring to see how they worked together, demonstrating resilience, cooperation, and kindness throughout the challenge. I am incredibly proud to be part of such a wonderful group of Stage 3 students who not only embraced the physical challenge but also exemplified strong teamwork and a caring spirit. This experience has truly strengthened their bonds and created lasting memories for all involved.
A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Deiderick for her outstanding organisation of the excursion. A great deal of time, effort, and careful planning went into preparing us for this memorable trip, ensuring everything ran smoothly and the students were well supported throughout.
We also extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Annetts and Mrs. Polson for accompanying Stage 3 on the excursion. Their dedication, support, and commitment played a vital role in making the experience safe, enjoyable, and enriching for all the students. We truly appreciate their involvement and teamwork in helping to create such a successful and rewarding adventure.

This term Stage 3 have been focusing on poetry in our writing. Students have created some excellent poems including the ‘I Am’ poem shared at assembly. They have composed wonderful Haiku poems in addition to composing catalogue poems. This learning has focused on using more poetic devices to engage and hook the reader. We have looked at the acronym ISHAMPOO to assist us with remembering what we may like to add. It stands for Similes, Idioms/Imagery, Hyperbole, Metaphors, Personification, Oxymoron and Onomatopoeia. Students have been exploring how to add more vivid imagery and descriptions when composing poems.
In Maths we have been learning about probability and how to assess the likelihood of certain things occurring using fractions and percentages. Students have tested the fairness of tests including games such as scissors, paper, rock over an extended number of tests.
