From Nick, Senior School Science teacher
Grade 3
This week the grade 3’s had a lot of fun exploring the properties of bubbles. Did you know that a bubble is a thin film of liquid filled with gas? The grade 3’s experimented with adding sugar to their bubble mixture and they discovered the sugar made the bubbles last longer. This is because the sugar holds onto the water molecules and it also increases the elasticity of the bubble.

Grade 4
The grade 4 students are understanding both chemical and physical changes. We are also extending our understanding of how heat affects states of matter and how we can use these science principles to help us create yummy treats.

Grade 5/6
This week the grade 5 and 6 students have been busy testing different mixtures to get the strongest bubbles! Students were given the task to research and understand the properties of bubbles and put it to the test by writing their own experiments and carrying out tests. We had some huge bubbles!

SCIENCE AT HOME
If you are interested in doing some science at home, here are a few activities we have been doing at school that you could try…
